Two Temples of the Acropolis
Temple of Olympian Zeus
Just east of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, this stadium hosted the first Olympic Games of modern times in 1896. Originally built in the 4th century BC as a venue for the Panathenaic athletic contests. The seats were rebuilt in Pentelic marble by Herodes Atticus in the 2nd century AD, and faithfully restored in 1895.
